The core does a lot of the work, but the face is what your hand feels on contact — and for a bulk club or event order, picking the right one keeps your members happy on day one.

How the face material changes your game

The face is the thin outer layer bonded to the paddle’s polypropylene honeycomb core. A stiffer, smoother face like graphite transfers energy quickly and gives a crisp, connected feel, which players read as control and touch. A slightly more flexible face like fiberglass flexes on impact and springs back, adding power and pop. Neither is objectively better — they suit different styles.

Graphite: control and touch

Graphite (carbon) faces are the choice for players who win with placement, dinks, and soft resets at the kitchen line. The stiff surface gives a predictable, low-vibration response so you always know where the ball is going. A note on carbon and thermoformed faces

You will hear a lot about raw carbon fiber and thermoformed construction. Both live on the higher-performance end of the spectrum — great for competitive rosters, though not necessary for a casual league.

For a mixed group, match the face to the majority of your players. Rec-heavy leagues do best on fiberglass; competitive clubs lean graphite or raw carbon.
